191022:

Going over the mysterious letter from Auntie Elizabeth to Jamie with Jamie and Eve these last couple of days. "Winifred" may be a complete fiction. We only know of her existence from what the con man David Preston told her and it could be just a part of the fabric of lies he invented to con her out of some money for his "education".

This is my and Eve's transcript of the relevant part of that undated letter:

My great niece Heidi Koston is at Trinity College , Dublin and loves it . She is doing modern languages. I have two great nephews at Oxford, one the youngest grandson of my brother Bill RIP from Chicago , Mark Quinlisk, and a grandson of my eldest brother John P Quinlisk RIP, David Preston from South Africa. They met by chance at Harvard and David knew his beloved grandfather John P. Quinlisk must be related . Strange world ! My eldest brother never visited Ireland after WWI as he had been told by the family he must not go home wearing soldiers uniform by some of my relations who could not understand that ANYONE living and working in England HAD to join up. Just as in World War II your brother Tom had to join up.

It was all very sad but I am so pleased to meet up with dear kind John's grandson. Unfortunately both young men are going to the Perugia University after Christmas. They did not seem to be interested in Ireland . David's mother , my niece Winifred Quinlisk is a widow. Her husband was an Explorer & writer and was killed in a plane accident a couple of years ago . Winifred's sister Eleanor is also a widow, they all live in S Africa. My brother John loved your Mother who was only a child during World War & when he came to see me in France in 1925 she was the only member of the family she seemed interested in . I do not blame him for not going to Ireland. His wife was a lovely woman, her people lived in Yorkshire & there are evidently some still at York where David & Mark visit. I hope they will come to see me again.

080323:
I am now making the change to merge this person with the actual person named Winifred Immison, who is a later childof the same mother, Edith [Waite] Immison as John Philip Immison and quite probably also the illegitimate daughter of John Patrick Quinlisk. At the same time, I am also including Eleanor "Quinlisk" as a probable mistaken name for the sister of John Philip and Winifred Immison who is actually named Eileen Immison. She too is most probably a product of the illicit affair between Edith [Waite] Immison and John Patrick Quinlisk.
240420:

I suspect from the long gap in the birth of children between the first two sons in this family and the now established fact that the second son was conceived as a result of an extra-marital relationship between Edith Waite and John Patrick Quinlisk that the two daughters born in 1914 and 1916 were also a product of that relationship.

210620:

In the 1939 Register Winnifred is found living with her parents once again. Her name was originally entered as Winnifred Imisson but that was crossed out and replaced with Leagh, then that was crossed out and replaced again with Imisson and that was finally crossed out and replaced with Storr. So it seems she had a succession of marital and inter-marital events in her life. She was indicated to be Single at that time.
