Enid O'Brien Email 15/01/04: "Re James Payne first wife, Eliza Hillier, who is Doug's antecedant. Eliza's mother, Mary Jane Boyles, married Henry Boyles after her firsthusband died; hence, Mary Jane Boyles, is listed on the 1921 census as mother-in-law. Doug said his father always referred to her as Granny Boyles. Doug tells me he has an old bible home with a lot of info in it.

Vital Stat Vol 20 D,Anglican Cathedral Dec 21, 1884 (St. John's) Henry Boyles (widower) age 48 yrs married Mary Jane Hillier (widow) age 42 years St. John's,Wit John Norris and John Hakins. They lived on 31 Fleming St in St. John's and I believe that Henry died between 1898and 1904 when Mary Jane is listed as "widow" of Henry in the directory.

Also, "Mary Jane" would be correct for Jane Payne even though her obit didn't insert the "Mary". I checked other records to confirm this,ie, 1921 census. This was a common practice."
