Last Will and Testament of
James Crane of Upper Island Cove
Planter deceased.
Know all men by these presents that I James Crane of Upper Island Cove, Conception Bay, Planter being of sound disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made
(1) I give devise and bequeath to my wife Susannah Crane one hundred and sixty dollars per year during her natural life.
(2) I will bequeath and give to my wife Susannah Crane my dwelling house and furniture for her natural life, if she should wish to leave it, the house and furniture to be sold.
(3) To my daughter Jane wife of Robert Badcock I will bequeath and give four hundred dollars for her sole use and behoof. To my daughter Christina wife of John Lamb I will devise and give four hundred dollars for her sole use and behoof. To my daughter Eliza wife of Philip McVicar I will devise and give four hundred dollars for her sole use and behoof.
(4) I will that the four stores near my dwelling house Upper Island Cove and Harbor Grace as well as all my goods and chattels be sold.
(5) I will that all the monies received from the sales of my goods and property be deposited in the Bank of Montreal St. John's to the credit of my estate
(6) That after the payment of moneys for the support of my wife during her life and the foregoing bequests all the rest and residue of my money and property be equally divided between my three sons. John William Crane, Rev. George Crane and Fenwick Crane share and share alike.
Lastly I hereby nominate and appoint my sons Rev. George Crane and Fenwick Crane to be the executors of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name at Harbor Grace Newfoundland this thirtieth day of September A.D. 1899 (sgd) James Crane. Signed published and declared by the said James Crane as and for his last will and Testament in presence of us, who in his presence and in the presence of each other, and at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto. From - The Telegram, St. John's, Newfoundland. February 19, 2002 CRANE, James - Passed away suddenly at his residence on Sunday, February 17, 2002. James Crane, in his 69th year. Predeceased by his mother and father, Ellen and William; sisters: Margaret, Mary, Sheila and Jean. Leaving to mourn son Wayne (Joan), New Glasgow; three daughters: Gloria (John) Kent, Mount Pearl, Michelle (Fred) Meyer, Calgary and Colleen, Ottawa; seven grandchildren; brothers: Jack (Edith), William (Madeline), Charlie (Carmel); sisters: Lorraine Quilliams, Gathlingburg, Tenn., and Marjorie Daniels; also a very special cousin and friend, Marguerite Murphy and a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Tuesday from 2 p.m.- 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m.- 10 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, February 21, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick`s Church. Cremation to follow. Inurnment at Belvedere Cemetery. February 19, 2002
