General:
Many of the details on the life of Mary Laing came from Leanne Quirk,a descendent in Australia who emailed me in August 1999 (see below). These details have not been verified by other sources and I have not been able to include Leanne in the family tree because she has not given me enough details on the links between her and Mary Laing.

I also found the marriage of Mary to a William WEBSTER.I also have birth records of not only Mary but two of her children,at the time I took no notice of the name at the top of these certificates until a few months ago and it had Jeans name on them. By my calculations Im Marion Minty wife of Howard Leopold MORRY is my 3C2R,I think that means a very distant cousin.I normally will follow a sister or brothers line in the hope they will have info on my direct line,eg death date or record of Mary WEBSTER nee LAING. Also I,ve met a Linda MERLE who is a decsendant of Alison Michell DALRYMPLE,S parents Helen McCLAY and Hugh DALRYMPLE.Alison married William WEBSTER ,son of Mary WEBSTER (born 1805)nee LAING and William WEBSTER. I am divorced ,I reverted back to my maiden name when I divorced my husband in 1991,my passion for fossicking into the past started about then , I worked for a number of years with young adults with intellectual dissabilities, (mental retardation) , I love study . I now do a lot of volunteer work with the occassional landscaping and babysitting duties,oh and I,m also a parttime secretary .I travel with my partner when I can ,as his work sometimes entails it ,which I enjoy

I not only have scottish blood on my maternal side( grandfather was born in Scotland) , My father's side has Irish blood, both my Great -Great grand parents came out from Ireland .Father from Dublin and mother from Tipperary .I remembered once my mother was in hospital and dad was a catholic but brought up in a prodestant home (mothers side)and this day the old Catholic Priest Father Relihan (hewas at least 80 years old then)came over to speak to mum,(I think he saw her name QUIRK,and assumed her to be catholic)and he looked at mum ,looked at her religen then looked at mum and said sternly "Fancy having a name like QUIRK and not being Catholic) . I still remember that to this day .Poor mum tried to explain to no avail .That is about as interesting as my sidegoes .I was really hoping for some convicts ,etc alas nothing,just normal people . As yet I do not have any other info to help you with , most of the info I have has been found on the LDS Site on the internet which was submitted by your aunt Jean Funkhouser .I in fact have birth records sent to me by Norma and they have your aunts name on them ,at the time I saw no connections but I do now.
