Enid O'Brien suggests that the date shown here as a date of birth (10 Dec 1872) is actually the date of christening as recorded at the Basilica.

He is supposedly buried in Belvedere Cemetery according the actual copy of the Vital Record of his death and burial found on Family Search but it may be that he is only memorialised there since he died in Brooklyn.

There is also conflicting information as to the location of the marriage because it too was recorded at the RC Basilica but again according to Marie and Enid at least it did not take place there. This is what Enid had:

"Joseph was chr RC Bas.10/12/1872. He md Mary Mgt O'Neill in Aug 1914 at Our Lady Good Council Church, New York. They were living in NY when his brother Rev. Father James McNamara died in 1926. Ref. ET Jan 18/1926-4.

She later corrected this information. The place of the marriage was given to her by Maureen Nolan, a cousin of Marie Skiffington, and Enid did not verify it. It would appear that Maureen was wrong.

Also Enid verified that the date of death of Father James McNamara was in fact June 1913, not 1926. The information above pertained to the death of Alfred. The jury is still as to whether his body really was transported home and buried in Belvedere Cemetery.

Enid did find this US death record for Joseph:

I will use these dates for birth and death.
