210111: I am speculating that this is a son of Richard and Mary because those are the names given on his birth register though the surname is spelled Morey and not Morrey. I am surprised that Margaret Dickinson did not seem to be aware of his existence as she never mentioned him to me but was aware of the use of the name Milward (or Millward) as a second name in this extended family and wondered about the significance.

Keith Matthews' name file for the Morry family shows that this boy shipped out of Dartmouth on the Brig HOPE aat the age of 12 in 1807 from the 18th of May to the 7th of November but the brig was lost at sea off Lowestoft with all hands but one and Nicholas was amongst those lost.

Nicholas Milward Morey was the last person of that surname by any of its many spellings who was baptised at St. Clement Townstal. Matthew Morry's family had long since moved to St. Saviour's and his cousins George and Richard were to soon do so as well. However, most of them wound up being buried at St. Clement Townstal cemetery because there was no room in the tiny churchyard at St. Saviour's.

This record of baptism showed up in a search for all names similar to Morry in the Stoke Gabriel register. I have no idea who the mother may be other than this limited information. Until now I did not know of any Rebecca in our line. But our line (i.e. that of William and Jennet) was the only Morry family (by multiple spellings of that name) in the register at the time this woman would have been born so it seems that she was a child of one of the children of William and Jennet. I just don't know which one, so I am leaving her unattached for now. It is also possible that she was married to one of the Morey men and that after his death or otherwise she bore a child out of wedlock. This would make it even more difficult to figure out who she might be associated with, since there are no spouses of Morey men in that era named Rebecca either.

It seems more than likely that this is the same Rebecca Morey

I now believe that she was not related to our Morry clan. There is record of a birth and baptism of a Rebecca Moary in Dittisham 12th and 26th of June 1720, daughter of William Moary. It seems likely this is she and that, for reasons unknown, she wound up being apprenciced at 8 years of age as above and taken advantage of, possibly by her employer, at the age of 16, winding up pregnant and bearing son William, named after her father. It seems to all fit.
