In his book of memoirs, edited by Ed Roberts, called My Fight For Newfoundland, Peter Cashin has this to say about his meeting with Arthur O'Leary in 1909 during his first campaign for the House of Assembly:
"We stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur O'Leary. We were able to secure a little refreshment in this place for the occasional guests and these were many at the time. The late Edward O'Leary had died a few years previously. He was of Irish heritage and famous for his Irish wit. He was a great supporter of my father from the beginning of his political career, and was made Wreck Commissioner."

Notes
General:
Marriage record at Holy Apostle RC Church in Renews notes that the name is Judith Leary, not O'Leary as recorded by Enid O'Brien (see note under husband John's name). But she is identified as O'Leary as are her brother and neice in her will.
Husband John Morry left $20,000 for the support of her cousin Margaret O'Leary, an amount that would constitute a small fortune in those days (1946). One wonders why he was so generous to his wife's cousin? He only left $200 to his own nephews and nieces (on the Morry side) and an average of $1000 to his nephews and nieces on his wife's side (O'Learys or Learys). It turns out that this childless couple had unofficially adopted Margaret as a "daughter" many years before. She was the chief beneficiary of both estates.
Email from Enid O'Brien, 300404:
"Re your confusion about the Fowler relationship. I am sure that Judith was only married once. There were 16 years difference in age of John and Judith. Judith had more than one sibling. As well as Arthur O'Leary who married Elizabeth "Bessie" Fowler, she also had a sister, Mary, and a sister, Elizabeth, who married James Fowler. Edward and Stanislaus Fowler were the sons of Elizabeth O"Leary and James Fowler.I believe that Elizabeth Fowler and Arthur O'Leary were the parents of Annie O'Leary who had taken the name of Sister Immaculta.
Please note the following: Evening Telegram August 20, 1911-6. Therepassed peacefully away at Renews, Elizabeth, wife of James Fowler. Mrs. Fowler is the youngest daughter of our esteemed Customs Officer, Mr. Edward O'Leary. She leaves a husband, 2 children, 2 sisters, Mrs. J. Morry, Renews, and Miss Mary O'Leary, Renews.
Regarding your question about how they came by so much money. I really don't know. I was told (although I haven't confirmed it) that John spent time in the USA. As you know, he was married late (40 years old). I noticed in old newspapers when there was a collection for a marine disaster (and there were many) any contributions were posted in newspapers. Most people all along the shore would contribute .50 (at most $1) but his contribution was way out of proportion, i.e, $5. This happened time and time again.
As you pointed out Judith's mother was Johannah Jackman. She most likely is related to the famous Jackman family from Renews (who were all Captains, clergy, etc). Maybe she inherited from them. Her father was a Customs Officer and, at that time, they made quite a profit from wrecks along the shore. I believe later they had a Wrecks Commisioner appointed, at one time this was Sir Michael Cashin."
300816:
There is a discrepancy between the date I had for her birth as April 1872 which I had attributed to the Holy Apostles register and the date of christening I found today from that source as reported on the NGB website, which was Sept. 7, 1871. I suspect the earlier date of birth was taken down incorrectly and should have been 1871. I will substitute it with Bedf. Sept. 7, 1871 and leave the other date as an alternate.
