Though I am not 100% certain that Elias Chislett is a brother of Jane (seems most likely since she witnessed his wedding), this begins to form an interesting pattern. The Sooley connection (Elias' bride Susannah Sooley) is also important, especially since her Christian name is Susannah, the same as that of Jane Chislett's mother. I am now of the opinion, yet to be proved, that the mother of Jane Chislett (and Elias?) was also named Susannah Sooley. I had formerly had the Sooley name associated with the mother of Jacob Bishop, Hannah, whose surname I also cannot prove with evidence. But it now seems more likely that the connection was through the Chislett line so I am switching the "Sooley" surname from Hannah to Susannah today.

NB: This Sooley connection stems entirely from the fact that I possess a bible that belonged to an Anna Sooley who died young in Heart's Delight. The bible was in the possession of Jacob Bishop and Jane Chislett and I had no idea to whom this Anna Sooley was related (if she even was). I guessed at Jacob Bishop first off but this latest information above makes it seem more likely the connection was through the Chislett line.

Paul Cohen has provided support for the belief that the parents of Jane Chislett were James [possibly James Henry] Chislett and Susannah Sooley. He did not pursue the Sooley line and therefore we cannot as yet connect Susannah to other Sooleys in the area. A cautionary note: very little of what Paul has provided is referenced as to primary sources and some may in fact be guesswork.

I cannot be certain that this is the same William Sooley whose gravestone appears on StonePics NF111 but the dates of birth and death are appropriate.

If this is he, it is interesting that three members of this family, father and two daughters in their early 20s, all died within 11 months of one another. It looks suspiciously like a disease of some sort spread from one family member to the other, though not an epidemic because there were not large numbers of deaths in the community during this period.

Stu Traverse has put together a profile of this family which appears to be accurate on first glance but the huge gap that exists between the marriage of this William Sooley and Mary Legge and the births of Anna and Lucy make it implausible, though not impossible, that they were the parents. I still suspect that there was another William Sooley with a wife named Mary ? who was the father of these girls.

A copy of Stu's file was sent to me today by Facebook Messenger and is in the Media folder and attached to Source records for various events in the family. Stu did not have a birth record for William but the marriage record says he was from Hearts Content, not Hearts Delight. This suggests that they would have returned there to live and hence would not be the parents of Anna and Lucy who were born and died in Heart's Delight.
