Beatrice's grandfather Samuel Bragg born about 1811 ,in Bocking Essex, had served in the army in Canada. He started his working life as a brick maker and then joined the army as a gunner with horses. In his obituary it was reported he often spoke of the Canadian rebellion. Samuel was invalided out of the army after falling from a hay loft and injuring his arm so badly he could not move it very well. On his return to England he went into the police force and became a superintendent later. He also received a Chelsea pension as an out pensioner. When he died he was a wealthy man , leaving dwelling houses , wear houses and other property. I have thought of him as a wheeler dealer.
