Predeceased by husband Martin Cahill, Bell Island, daughter Delores, parents Johanna and Arthur Carew, Cape Broyle, brothers Henry, Austin, Jimmy, Louis and sisters margaret Power, Mary Stanford, Lena Youden and Clara Carew. Leaving to mourn six daughters: Regina (Larry) Warren, Corner Brook and special grandchild Laurina; Judy (Eugene) Melay, St. John's and grandchildren Glenn, Paula, Shelley; Catherine (John Faimon) Jackman, Kitchener, Ontario, and grandchildren Johnny, Stephen, Regina; Marie Hibbs, St. John's and grandchild Deanna; Theresa (Frank) Edwards, Burin and grandchildren Maura, Jeremy, Damien, Annette, Mark, Dolores, Erin; Josephine (Peter) Murphy, Sarnia, Ontario, and grandchildren Peter Jr., Wendy, Dwayne, Christopher, Clairerista; one son Francis (Sheila) Cahill, Fort McMurray, Alberta, and grandchildren Francis Jr., Jason; one brother Victor (Annie) Carew, 3 great-grandchildren. According to Andrea Tarvin she was the original author of the song "Southern Shore Queen", recorded in 1951 by Omar Blondahl: ""The song... was originally recorded by Omar Blondahl. The song was written by Gertrude Carew Cahill. She would have been the daughter of Arthur Carew from Shore's Cove, Cape Broyle, who was my great grandmother's brother. She died here in St. John's about three years ago and before she died they had a birthday party for her in St. Patricks Mercy Home at a which time they printed off the words to this song and passed it around for everyone to sing. The Downhomer...a local publication....had an article published about four to five years ago that read "Southern Shore Queen Mystery Solved."
