Notes
General:
080713 from John C. Street, Ed. Journal of Oliver Rouse:
1. On July 30, 1861 Anna Rouse married the Rev. John Goodacre Cragg. The ceremony took place in the church at Bay de Verde; her father officiated, and the witnesses were Elias Piccot (the local school-teacher) and Annals brother William O. Rouse. In the marriage register OR carefully noted not only that Mr. Cragg was "Missionary of [the] S.P.G. at Pinchard's Island", but also that he was "Son of william Preston Cragg, Esq., of Barrow upon Soar, Leicester, England". The groom (born presumably around 1840-42) had entered the diocesan Theological Institution at St. John's--later to be called Queen's College--in 1860, and in 1862 graduated and was ordained deacon. (He was still a deacon at the time of his marriage to Anna, not being ordained priest until 1870.) From November 1862 until May 1879 Mr. Cragg was stationed at the Pinchard's Island/Badger's Quay/Greenspond mission on Bonavista Bay, some hundred miles north-northwest of Bay de Verde.
