Notes
General:
130812 from Enid O'Brien:

Alexander B LeMessurier, 62 yrs, late residence Catherine St. Custom Official ended his own life . The body of Alexander B LeMessurier, Custom Surveyor, ended his life by hanging yesterday afternoon shortly after 10 o'clock last at the Listing Room, King's Wharf............... (Ref. ET 21/11/1921)

[NB: 20 July 2019 - they got his age completely wrong; he was 68. Enid recorded the date of the newspaper incorrectly leading me to believe initially that he had died in 1921 until I found his burial record at Forest Rd. at The Rooms]

161012:

Alex lost two of his children to childhood illness within days of one another in 1893 and another was lost in the war. In the 1921 Census he was indicated as "Separated ?" and living with his only remaining son, Philip. I suspect all of this tragedy in his life is what led him to take his own life later that year.

200719:

I have discovered that there is evidently an error in the earlier information pertaining to his death. It now appears that he did not die in 1921 as the above seems to indicate but rather in 1933. I found an entry for him in the Forest Rd. Cemetery ledger as follows:

125. Nov 21 [1933] King's Quay (Place of Death) Strangulation. Alexander le Messurier. Sec K Lot 2 No 17. 63 years old. Nov. 22 [1933] burial. St. Thomas's Parish. $6.50 fee paid. The officiating minister's signature is illegible (looks like K. S. Facey) but he is not one of those regularly found in the register so I think this may have had to do with the cause of death being suicide. This may in fact have been a police officer or funeral director rather than a minister.

In looking at the 1921 Census myself I can see how Enid misread the information. In fact, her date of birth was given as October 1919 and her age as 2.
