Article in Evening Telegram December 9, 1960, passed to me in email from Enid O'Brien, 5/04/03
"Mrs. Donald Badcock and Professor Fraser (provincial archivist) gives a silhouette and a 1775 sealed deed as a gift to the archives. Mrs. Badcock's mother is Mrs. Frances LeMessurier. (Of course we know her gdmother is Helena Morry)."
There is some confusion in the transcription. I presume the full text pertained to Frances' daughter's passing over the deed from the way Enid has worded her text. In fact her father was Francis (Frank) LeMessurier and her mother was Helena Morry

I checked out the above with Melanie Tucker at The Rooms to find out what the deed was about and who the silouette depicted. Here is her reply:
Hi Chris,
Yes, the 1775 deed of gift (MG 956.132) is part of our special items collection and is entitled, "Deed of gift of dwelling house and properties: Robert Carter, Ferryland, to daughter, Ann Hill".
The silhouette must have been transferred to the Provincial Museum at the time. It is in their collection here at The Rooms, with the following description:
"Donor's Distant Relative - Lieut. Henry Sweetland, Royal Navy, from Calvert, 1830-1860; from a well-known Ferryland family, after his retirement from the Navy, he made his home In Topsham, England, until his death in 1860" # 977.227.
I hope this helps!
All the best,
Melanie
While the deed, or a copy of it, exists amongst the Carter papers, I have never seen the silouette and will request that they make a copy for me.

Vic's daughter Carol commented on a photo of Vic on her 100th birthday:
Carol Papaierotheos Marie, that was the second cake, the one for family and friends. The first one was provided for by St. Luke's, and they had the Bishop, the Mayor, the Lieutenant Governor and representatives of the Rotary and Legion there too. The Bishop and the Lieutenant Governor gave short speeches. And yes, the first cake was eaten by the staff and residents, and the second nearly all taken care of by family and friends. I think the photo part was left only. Mom was delighted with it all - besides the parties she had over 70 Birthday Card wishes too. Absolutely lovely.

In his notes of an interview with Helena Morry Le Messurier on March 16, 1960, Nimshi Crewe notes that Vic (Mrs. Badcock) now had in her possession a gold monogrammed (ASM) broach which had belonged to her great grandmother, Anne Sanders Morry as well as a hair-filled pearl-bordered broach which had belonged to Emily Frances Victoria Morry.

Email from Anne LeMessurier Lilly 10/03/03:
Aunt Avis married William Kent, a magistrate in Corner Brook. Aunt May married Percy LeMessurier, a distant cousin. She lived in Curling, just outside Corner Brook. Both of these aunts lived to be quite elderly. Flora moved to the "Boston states" as so many Newfoundlanders did back then; I don't know any more about her and I never met her.
Husband and wife were 1st cousins, once removed. Must have caused a bit of a fuss!
