Unlike events registered at Totnes, which could have occurred in any of the little villages of the South Ham region for which Totnes served as the administrative registry centre, an event shown as occurring in Paignton more than likely did take place right in that town.

160307: I purchased a CD produced by the Ancestry.com group of companies entitled "English Parish Records: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset & Somerset". Despite the grand title, of course this CD contains only a very small percentage of the parish records from those counties and that only in the form of an index of what exists. Even so I have found therein a number of tantalising leads to documents that may pertain to my ancestors.One of these that I find particularly intriguing is the following entry:

There is no proof at this time that this is English Maunder Mowry, but it seems highly likely. Unfortunately the Will was destroyed in 1942 when a German bomber scored a direct hit on Exeter Cathedral where all historical documents had been moved for safe-keeping during the war. Thus there is no way to connect that person to Gregory Mawry.
