Information from Enid O'Brien 231212: " know Anna but she isn't related to me from the Carews. She was raised by Sarah Carew from the time she was an infant because her mother wasn't well. She was never officially adopted. She always knew her "real" family but she considered Vic/Alfreda her sisters because Mrs Sarah raised her. Vic md Cyril Hayes and had a dgt, Rosemary. As Anna was only 10 yrs older than Rosemary and they lived in the same house she considered Rosemary a sister as well. If you notice in the obit it gives her deceased sisters as Vic and Alfreda (as well as her biological family) and Rosemary (Hayes) McCarthy as a sister. Anna's father, Thomas, was a Carew from Admiral's Cove and her mother was Mary called "Mame" Walsh. Ernest was deceased when Sarah "took" Anna but she was fairly well placed financially because she still had a few schooners. You often heard it said that "it takes a village to raise a child" and people did what was best for the child. Anna was a lovely person. She was a school teacher and married Phonse Heffernan from Petty Hr/Goulds area."

Hi again:
This picture is of Esther Morry/Henry Carew's daughter, Annie Carew, married to John McNamara and their family. John was from St. John's but he was the Custom Broker at Cape Broyle. John was the brother of the Honourable Frank McNamara, Rev Father Jim McNamara, Alfred McNamara (who had a jewellery store on Water St) Joseph McNamara and they had a sister Mary, who married Aiden O'Driscoll from Witless Bay, later Cochrane St. Your father might know them.
The two young men standing are their sons, Austin and George. Sitting is James, Annie - their mother, dgt Mary, John - their father, and Margaret.
The McNamara's were plagued with heart disease and John died a young man in 1921. In their wedding annoucement it said that Annie "was an accomplished young lady having received a thorough education in the United States" (Daily News, Aug 27, 1897). I don't know what she was doing in the US.
Austin married Florence Hammond from Portugal Cove. He died in 1965 and Florence was burned to death in a fire on York Street in 1971/72.
George married Winnifred ? Shea. They had a wholesale business on George Street for years.
James died young, quite suddenly, he was an accountant. He didn't marry.
Mary didn't marry (although she was engaged X 3). Her nephew lived with her during the week (he worked at the post-office in St. John's) and went home to Harbour Grace over the weekends. Mary was going down in the basement to feed the cat in January 1986 when she tripped and fell over the stairs. She was there for two days until Jimmy came back and she died in shock shortly after. She was in her 80s at the time.
Margaret married Gus Casey (Casey Meat Market) in St. John's.
Annie, as I mentioned before, was struck by a car on LeMarchant Road and was killed instantly. It was a very rainy, foggy night, and the lady driving the car didn't see her.

Marie Skiffington family tree file reports that Annie was on her way home from the shops with a sack of potatoes when she was struck and killed by a car at the corner of Boncloddy St. and LeMarchant Rd. She was killed instantly. It was a very rainy, foggy night, and the lady driving the car didn't see her.
