Notes
General:
Note that her surname was O'Sullivan according to Roberta Sullivan in email dated May 24, 2001:
Notes for CATHERINE O'SULLIVAN: Catherine O'Sullivan buried in Ferryland Cemetery grave 125ii stone broken and almost gone.inscription illegible. Gert Crosbie Books = 1890 Feb 3 age 77
211008: In a letter written to Aunt Jean on March 11, 1961 Dad Morry said that he was there when she died and that it was on the 9th of March 73 years prior and that she was 93 at the time. Neither the date, nor the year nor the age conform with information from other sources. It may have been bad memory on his part, or it is possible the other sources were wrong. We will never know.
071017:
Kevin Reddigan redid the cemetery transcriptions for Ferryland on the Newfoundland's Grand Banks websites in 2016 and corrected many errors that he found there, a large number of which were the result of careless entry of data by Roberta Sullivan. For Catherine [ O'Sullivan ] White, this is what he wrote:
"14c (O'SULLIVAN) WHITE Catherine 3 Feb 1890 age 77 The (piece of) headstone lying on the ground to the right of John White's headstone is no longer legible but it may be part of the headstone for his wife, Catherine. A 1972 transcription, provided to Roberta Sullivan by the late Jean (Morry) Funkhouser, states the inscription said "Catherine O'Sullivan wife of John White, J.P., age 77 Feb 3 1890".
171022:
In fact, there is reason to believe that the transcripts taken from the old and worn gravestone by Roberta and Jean were mistaken and that the date of death was actually 8 Feb, 1890 as Aunt Jean recorded it elsewhere. A 3 and an 8 can easily be mistaken on an old gravestone.
In a letter to Aunt Jean dated March 11 1961, Dad Morry said she died on the 9th, 73 years before. That would make it March 9, 1888 and that certainly is not correct. Why he believed that it was is uncertain.

According to Dad Morry in an interview he gave to Nimshi Crewe in the 1967 which Nimshi converted into an article in the Evening Telegram on February 23 of that year, this property later belonged to Richard's son of the same name, the school teacher. dad Morry referred to the area as "the Lookout" though the grant refers to by the predominant local feature, the Quarry River. It is near where the Foodland is located today.• Appointment: Appointed as Constable to the Southern Circuit Court, 10 Oct 1861, Ferryland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

Notes
General:
Surname was O'Sullivan according to email from Roberta Sullivan dated May 24, 2001.
150104: In Richard and Roberta Sullivan's detailed family tree: "Notes for RICHARD (1) O'SULLIVAN: This person is a mystery!!!". They go on to give a great deal of information on all possible Richard Sullivan references in the time frame but cannot establish with certainty which of these is their man.
111208: From Dad Morry's 1965 memoirs: "My mother's [NB: this was an error on his part; he meant to say his "grandmother's"] father was John White from King's Bridge, Devon, her mother was daughter of Richard Sullivan, an Irishman who came over here in the 1840s. I'll just break off here to tell of my grandfather Sullivan.
His brother had a haberdashery over in Dublin and he was out here some years when he had a letter telling of his brother's death and that there were two large crates of goods left to him. They were being sent to him by the first boat coming to Newfoundland and calling at Waterford on the way over. Eventually he got word they arrived in St. John's. Then a long wait. None of the boats calling here could get the bales down their hatches, so one brought it on deck. On the day of arrival all the harbour that could walk went down on Carter's wharf to see what Sullivan got from Ireland.
Well there was another problem, there wasn't any horse or cart big enough to get the crates on to bring it to his home so he decided to open them on the wharf. First one, the biggest one was filled with - of all things, 10 dozen tall silk hats, so he knew he wouldn't sell them. He gave then around to the neighbours as they came along and his son told me, for years afterwards you'd see fellows fishing; with Beaver hats (he called them) and when it came to the squidding ground, to look around and see maybe 20 or 30 men squidding away and now and then get their hats knocked off by someone with a squid. For the squidding ground was always a place for jokes."
020317:
In Aunt Jean's research notes, copies of which were sent to me by Karen in 2002, it seems that she believed, and she got this from a letter from Dad Morry, that John White was born in Dublin and his unnamed wife in Dublin or Waterford. It is all much of a mystery.
040322:
The information on Richard Sullivan's place of origin came from Richard and Roberta Sullivan. It was stated that he was from Wexford and this has been frequently repeated in family trees but not verified to my knowlege. Originally that information was found in the newsaper account of this death transcribed by Gert Crosbie from the Newfoundlander 1827-1884. It could have been based on a lack of information and knowledge of the geography of Ireland by the unnamed informant who provided that information to the newspaper.
