Notes
General:
210616:

According to a note to file dated 7 Sept. 1960, now found in MG281 at The Rooms, Nimshi Crewe reported a conversation that day with Michael White to the effect that the former housekeeper of the late Father Maher when he was Parish Priest in Cape Broyle, a Miss Fleming, had for some time at least papers belonging to Robert Carter including court records and other personal papers which Michael White had given to Father Maher for safekeeping.

In later correspondence with Dad Morry, Nimshi indicates that the two of them visited this housekeeper endeavouring to regain control of this material but that she indicated that she had discarded it when Father Maher had moved to Torbay.

Whether this is all correct or apocryphal is unclear. Michael's wife was pretty far removed from Judge Carter and it is hard to imagine why she would have come into his papers.

300816:
In his book of memoirs, edited by Ed Roberts, called My Fight For Newfoundland, Peter Cashin has this to say about his meeting with Mike White on the occasion of his first politicl rally in 1909:
"After the meeting we had a small social get together at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike White. Mike had been an ardent supporter of Cashin [Peter's father, Sir Michael Cashin] for years and continued to give me similar support then and also in the future. I might also mention that Mrs. White was one of the old Carter family, and sister of Mrs. Alderdice, whose husband became Prime Minister in 1932 and was responsible for bringing about Commission of Government under British control."

It is notable that, while Dad Morry was a great supporter of Michael Cashin, the father, he did not have much good to say about his son, Peter. 3238,8516

280705: Remained single all her life according to Enid O'Brien:

Philomena (dgt of Henry White and Mgt O'Driscoll) was baptised September 20, 1886. She took a commercial course at Mercy Convent in St. John's (ref Ida White Michael).

101213:

According to Laura Morry Williams in her book Over The Fence, Phil and her brother Johnny lived in the same house with their sister Shan White Maher and her husband Bill Jack Maher all their lives. But according to Uncle Howard, Johnny could not stand Bill Jack and had nothing to do with him. He also said that Phil never worked a day in her life and implied that they lived on inherited money from the Carters.

She also noted that Phil courted a postman named Jack Fowler but nothing became of it and she remained a spinster for the rest of her life.
