"Chris, Thanks for your response about your leap about John White.I think that if you were related to the Aquaforte Whites someone would have said something by now!!! I have talked extensively to Whites and Jean Funkhouser and never heard any mention of an Aquaforte connection. You made mention that the Richard White in Aquaforte was from same place as John William White. Where does it say that, in what record??? I would think that you should remove all that you have said about being in Aquaforte etc. and just leave it that John William White arrived in NF and married Catherine O'Sullivan in 1837 etc. and leave it atthat till something else is proven with more documentation. We cannot have any miss leading information on the www as then it seems to become more than it is and that error will be propagated and confuse theresearchers. You see some folks think what is on the www is "Gospel".

Another thing is that Howard Morry in all his various writings never made reference to any Aquaforte connection.

There are still White descendants in and from Aquaforte and they havesaid that it is a different family."

I had assocaited a Richard Whie who was born August 14, 1870 in Aquaforte as father of John White but based on the above objections and similar ones from Cal White I am removing this suggestion until further proof is provided. These are the notes I made to myself at the time I discovered this othre Richard White: "If I have the right Richard White, the profession listed on death certificate by Henry M. Skinner is fisherman and abode is Aquaforte. But age at death was given as 74 which didn't exactly jibe with previously recorded birth year of about 1790 so I have changed that to Abt. 1796."

White & wife Margaret sell their complete homestead (land, house, and furnishings) to younger brother Alfred for $1.00.This property is situated on the north side of Ferryland. He is buried in the same plot with his wife and two daughers in the new RC cemetery in Ferryland. Their gravestone reads on the four sides:

"In Loving Memory of Henry White Who Died at Ferryland Dec 1st 1895 Aged 52 Years RIP

Note that there is a discrepancy between the date of death on the gravestone and that reported in the DPHW return by father Vereker. On the latter he reports the death occurred on December 1, 1893 and that he was the priest who attended. If that is so, the date on the gravestone is out by two years (it says 1895) and therefore his date of birth calculated from the stated age at death is also out by two years (should be 1848 instead of 1850. Only the original church register can determine which is correct but I believe that the DPHW has the years of death wrong on this page as the deaths that supposedly happened in 1893 are immediately followed by those in 1896.

I just copied and transcribed the Indenture that big Cal referred to above. It is a classic dodge that business people used in Newfoundland in thos days to avoid creditors seizing their personal property to pay off debts becuase there was no such thing then as making their company "Limited Liability" operations. The "sale" to his brother Alfred was made in Trust for his wife Margaret. See the transcript in the Media folder.
