Information provided by Jean Carter Stirling 150207: "Married Henry Davis Carter, 4th son of Sir F.B.T.Carter KCMG and CJ,to Annie Jessie Baird, daughter of James Baird on 7th at Scotland Row by Rev. Moses Harvey, FRGS. 1886, Nov. 16, G,S,M. "

1) Gazette (Royal Newfoundland Gazette) 1807- 2) Harbor Grace Standard ( also known as Standard and Conception Bay Advertiser) 1859-1936 3) Evening Mercury (then Evening Herald) 1882-1920

160113: Geoff Martin found the Twillingate Sun for Dec. 4, 1886 on the Google newspaper archive and contains a slightly different version of events.

"On the 10th inst., at 7, Scotland Row, By the Rev. Moses Harvey, F.R.G.S., Annie Bessie, only daughter of Jas. Baird, Esq., to Henry Davis, fourth son of Sir. F.B.T. Carter, K.C., M.C., Chief Justice"

The date is ambiguous as is the exact address. Also not sure if Scotland Row was in St. John's as it no longer exists.

220213:

Again Geoff Martin found this version amongst the MUN Digital Archives of the Evening Telegram: "Last evening, at 7, Scotland Row, by the Rev. Moses Harvey, F.R.G.S., Annie Jessie, only daughter of Jas. Baird, Esq., to Henry Davis, fourth son of Sir F. B. T. Carter, K.C.M.G., Chief Justice."

Ancestry.com has just put online their version of Gert Crosbie's BMD from Newfoundland Newspapers. Even thought the Maritime History Archive had already published this on CD, having the records systematically available online will be a big step forward.

120315:

On 5 Nov. 1935, Margaret Baird arrived in Liverpool on the NOVA SCOTIA from St. John's. It is not clear whether she was intending to immigrate or simply paying a visit to relatives. The address she gave as her desitnation was 48 Hallswelle Rd., London SW 11 and she indicated that her intention was to settle "elsewhere in the British Empire". That sounds to me what they would say if they were only visiting Britain and intended to return home to Newfoundland eventually.

Other passengers on board with whom she would have been familiar included Annie Jessie Elny [Baird] Carter, her mother, Gertrude Bailey Carter her unmarried sister, Sydney Anne [Jones] Carter, her sister in law and Peter Terrington Carter, her nephew. Her mother and sister were going to stay at the meyrick Court Hotel in Bournemouth, her sister in law and nephew were to stay at "Glantraeth", Bodorgan, Anglesey whilst her mother and sister indicated they too intended to settle somewhere else in the British Empire (presumably Newfoundland). The latter two indicated that Wales was their intended future home. So they were all on different missions it seems.

On the 5th of June 1930, Annie Jessie Elny [Baird] Carter and her unmarried daughter, Elizabeth Gertrude Bailey Carter, are shown returning from Liverpool to St. John's on the NEWFOUNDLAND. Last place of permanent residence -- Longham Hotel and Portland Hotel, London; future permanent residence -- Newfoundland. 1609
