Notes
General:
100420 from Kevin Reddigan's website (found on the NGB website but not in the Gert Crosbie collection):

Royal Gazette - July 11, 1848

Saunders, Catherine - Died at 87 years of age. Widow of John Saunders of Ferryland

With the exception of this death record, very little is actually known about the wife of John Saunders/Sanders. However, it is speculated that she may have been Roman Catholic and that their children were therefore raised in the Catholic faith. Several of their burials took place at the Holy Trinity RC Cemetery in Ferryland once it was opened. Had they been raised Anglican there would have been two other cemeteries, the Forge Hill Anglican cemetery and the Southside Non-Denominational Cemetery, where their burials could have taken place. That said, it is not known where Catherine herself was buried since the RC cemetery in Ferryland was not consecrated until late in the 1800s (ca 1870 according to Kevin Reddigan based upon dates found on the oldest gravestones there).
