In the February 2025 edition of The Devon Family History Society journal, the Devon Family Historian, the Editor, Sally MacDougall mentioned that Society volunteers have been actively transcribing documents of late - now 3.3 million of them - including probate records:
"Now over 3.3 million records on the Members' Area New data and information is added regularly - for the latest additions see pages 40-41. If you read your E-Historian online, and are logged-in to the Devon FHS website, the highlighted links will take you directly to the search pages. https://www.devonfhs.org.uk/dfhs-members-area/.
Latest news on Inland Revenue Wills
Thanks to the ongoing work of our transcribers, we have updated the Inland Revenue Wills for Devon between 1812 and 1857 with the wills of 4,582 benefactors, which contain 38,232 names of beneficiaries and other people named in the will.
The surname and forename searches both beneficiaries and benefactors. This is a live project and therefore this dataset is not yet complete. Search the records at: https://www.devonfhs.org.uk/members-area-live/inland-revenue-wills/
Benefactors with surnames starting with the following have been uploaded (these may not be complete yet): B, C, D, E, F, G, I, J, K, O and W.
As one of my favourite progammes say, "Keeeeeeeep checking!"
The first new entry in this monumental volunteer work that I noted was found simply by entering the surname "Morry". Even though the subject of this search was not herself a Morry, that surname was mentioned amongst the beneficiaries of the will in question, that of Elizabeth [Graham] Ellis:

Little is known of the husband of Elizabeth [Graham] Ellis. If her bequests were worth anything at all, he must have been a wealthy man, or else her fortune came down to her from her father, Capt. Christopher Graham.
July 6, 2025
All that can be said from the copy of her will which I have just transcribed is that she had bequests to make amounting to some £4000, an amount equivalent in today's currency to about £670,000. This would have been an enormous amount of money for an ordinary merchant to have accumulated in those days, if that is indeed what James Ellis was. This is one more mystery to be resolved.
Here is the transcript of that will:

Another version of the will exists and has also been downloaded from Ancestry.com. This is the version as recorded in archaic and hard to read script in the records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. This was recorded at the time that administration of the Will was granted to Noah Clift, Nephew of Elizabeth [Graham] Ellis, and the sole executor appointed by her in the original signed will.

GRAHAMFRANCIS - ST SAVIOURS MARR 02 APR 1871 HUBBERSTON PEM WLS - - - - MARRIED MARY MORRIS WIDOW. WITNESSES HENRY THOMAS JUSTIN HARRIS ELIZA KNOGHT
The most obvious problem with this being the marriage of this couple is that she would ostensibly be only four years old in 1871 if her datge at burial is correct. Yet it is enticing to believe that this is their wedding record because of her forename and place of birth in Wales. I have a feeling that the transcriber mistakenly made the year of the marriage 1871 when it should be 1891.

From The deanery of Totnes CD GRAHAM FRANCIS 75 29 08 1827 TOWNSTALL
280712:
Either co-owned a number of vessels with Matthew Morry or at least was the Master on vessels owned by Matthew according to information from Lloyd's Registry found at the Centre for Maritime Studies.
150517:
As late as 1816 he was serving as a mate on vessels headed for Newfoundland out of Darmouth according to the Exeter-Dartmouth Muster Roll for the Ann on 28 Feb 1816. However, his reported age is problematic -- 40. He should have been 62 at that time. It is possible there was another Francis Graham from Dartmouth whose birth I have not found on record. Or he may have lied in order to get the berth on board.
220517:
Interestingly, he was left a trust to be paid four times a year by his mother in her Will. This seems to indicate that he was insovent and not to be trusted with cash.
