040816 from Nimshi Crewe MG281:
There are differences in the extract made by Nimshi and that by Jill Marshall. Frankly, I tend to trust Nimshi for the accuracy of the extracts he has made. Here is what he shows for this marriage:
"From the Evening Herald, St. John's, 14 Jany. 1891.
Married Windsor-Cross. Last evening at the Queen's Rd. Congregational Church, by the Rev. T. Hodgkinson, Henry C., third son of Peter Windsor, Esquire, of Aquaforte, to Sarah, youngest daughter of Capt. Cross of this City."
Nimshi continues:
" My Note. I have met the above Mrs. Sarah (Cross) Winsor when living with one of her sons in St. John's, about 1940, and bught an old Sheraton mahogany secretary from her. I also knew her last surviving sibling, George Field Cross, her brother, of Patrick St., whose funeral, at about 92, I attended about 2 years ago.
Capt. George S. Field, of Poole, Dorset, married in 1831 Elizabeth Newhook, daughter of Charles Newhook, second, and his first wife, nee Catherine Newell, of Trinity. After sailing out of Trinity in foreign-going fish carriers, Capt. Field settled in New Bonaventure, as school master, he and wife are buried there.
One of his daughters married a Trinity born sea captain named Cross, this couple were the parents of the above Sarah and George Field Cross.
Henry C. and Sarah (Cross) Winsor had children, of whom Montgomery, at Aquaforte (whose daughter is Mrs. Thomas H. Goodyear) is the eldest surviving, about 75, while John, and their sister, Mrs. Frank Wills, live in St. John's.

According to information given to Nimshi Crewe by Tom Goodyear in 1966, Judith Cross Gent lived as a widow in Aquaforte with her niece Sarah Cross Windsor. As she was childless, Sarah was her sole heir to the share of the Heighton Estate (worth a considerable fortune evidently) when she died and was buried in Aquaforte.
