Gran's children that died with diphtheria are as follows -

1. St. Patrick's Church, St. John's B 28/5/1888 Bap. 6/6/1888

Robert John of James Stannard and Mary Allison by Rev. E. Croak

2. St. Patrick's Church, St. John's Born Jan. 28/1890
Stephen of James Stannard/Mary Ellison (sic) by Rev. E. Croak

These two children died between June 1891-Feb 1892. She left one child at home when she went to the cemetery and when she came back the other one was dead. She was pregnant with dad at the time who was born in February 1892. When dad was young he had was is now called sleep apnea. However, gran always thought that because she sobbed so much when she was pregnant with him that he couldn't rest properly and was holding his breath in his sleep.

She had another child Born11/8/1894, chr. Stephen (named for the Stephen who died). Chr. at St. Patrick's 13/8/1894 by Rev. E. Croak, Reg#629622.

I believe they were living on Tessier Place when they were burned down in the fire of July 1892 when dad was 5 months old. Apparently grandfather moved up in the westend after that and said he wouldn't live below the Railway Station again.

We are having a lovely day here in St. John's today. We just got back from a walk around Kent's Pond.

Talk to you later.

Email from Enid O'Brien

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the condolences for Stella. She was buried yesterday. There is only one half-sister left and she is living on her own in Long Island, New York, and will be 95 yrs old in October. She has a neice not far away who checks on her and does her grocery shopping, etc.

While no one wants to die there is a time when it is merciful. Stella has had no quality of life this past year. She had Parkinson's for over 20 years and has been in the nursing home since 2001. I visited her every Tuesday for 13 years ao that would have been more than my lifetime before that. She only had two sons and one was in Ontario which left Gerald with all the responsibility. Info on her family as follows:

Gerald Edney Born 2/10/1946 (St. John's) Md Theresa Heffernan, dgt Philip Heffernan and Mary Dinn (Goulds) at St. Kevin's Church June 28, 1971. Son: Gerald Douglas Edney (born 4/3/1980).

Kevin Edney,Born 15/10/1947 (St. John's) Md Lorraine Heffernan, dgt Martin Heffernan/Margaret Rogers, Cape Spear. I am told that Theresa and Lorraine are not related. Lorraine's father was the Assistant Light House Keeper at Cape Spear and they are related to the Cantwells who have manned the lighthouse there for many years. Kevin and Lorraine now live in Trenton, Ontario and were married 7/11/1970 at the RC Cathedral in St. John's. Their children are as follows:

Gary Edney, born 21/11/1971 (Mount Pearl) md Maggie Reyes, dgt Mr and Mrs Felix Reyes (Maggis is a nurse from the Phillipines) but living in Ontario, They live in Ajax, Ontario, and their children are as follows: Michael(B.2003), Justin (2006) and Matthew (2008).

Karen Edney (dgt Kevin) Born 13/9/1973 (Mount Pearl} MD Glenn Barter Dec 23,2006 in Ontario, Glenn is from Central Newfoundland. They have a dgt, Kaila (Born 3/2008. They live in Trenton.
