I met Dot with Fredi at her home in Aquaforte in 2010 and had a great chat about my Windsor ancestors. She was as bright and sharp as a 30 year old and in prime physical condition, living on her own.
I met her again at the flower service at St. Phillip's Anglican Church in 2011 with Paula and she was the same as ever.
It came as somewhat of a shock therefore when I received the following obit from Dave Wells today. Another of the dwindling few from the last generation gone.
From - The Telegram, St. John's, Newfoundland. June 9, 2014:
I have met Doug three times; once at the home of Tom Goodyear about five years ago; once at the funeral of his cousin Dot Windsor Keough two years ago and once on this trip on June 7, 2014 in company with Fredi Caines. Doug has a pretty good memory for a man who is approaching 90 (16 days after my visit). He remembered both my parents, having worked in the Customs Department ca 1944 towards the end of Mom's time there. He reminded me that his brother, Bill, was in the RN and drowned in the sinking of the SS CARIBOU on his return to Newfoundland on leave in 1942, He was told his brother sacrified his own life because he was safely in a lifeboat and jumped into the water to save a person in distress and was drowned in the attempt. He also told me that he had two brothers and one sister still alive; Frank, with whom he lives, Stan who lives in Tilsonburg, Ontario, and one sister, who is in Hoyles Home and no longer recognises him due to Alzheimer's. He gave me a number of pictures including a set of photos taken at the time of the dedication of the Colony of Avalon at which Dad Morry was a major figure. The dedication was done by Don Jamieson, who flew into Ferryland by float plane for the occasion. I also made photos of the photographs of his brother and father in their uniforms, as well as a family photo of he and his parents and several siblings when they were young.

WINDSOR Douglas Haig June 23, 1924 - March 2, 2021 Passed peacefully away at St Patrick's Mercy Home in his 97th year. Doug was a long-time resident of Ferryland, formerly of St. John's. A WWII Royal Canadian Air Force Veteran and graduate of Bishops Feild School (St. John's) class of 1940 and a proud "Feildian". A lifetime honourary member of the Avalon Masonic Lodge. Pre-deceased by his Father, Stan, (1945) a WW1 Royal Newfoundland Regiment Blue Puttee, his Mother, Mary (Farries), (1985) war bride of Hawick, Scotland. Brothers: Bill (1942) WWII Caribou Disaster and Frank (2018). Sisters: Jess (Tom Goodyear), Sarah (John Finn), Jean (Max Hayre) and nephew Johnny Finn. Leaving to mourn: Brother, Stan (Barb),Tillsonburg, Ontario and Sister-In-Law, Jeanette Windsor, who resided with him and was a big part of his care at home in Ferryland. His nieces and nephews and their families throughout Canada, whom he loved and looked forward to visiting and spending time with: Bill, Geoff, Jennifer; Chris, Elizabeth; Doug, Bill, David; Ken, Nancy, Bill, Andrew; Kim, Debbie, Stan. This past year, with COVID-19 travel restrictions in place, his nephew, Ken Windsor (Annette), represented all those living outside the province who would have loved to come and see Doug. Family was very important to Doug and his visits and games of crib with Ken were enjoyed so much. Doug will be dearly missed by the Curran Family of Sunny Hill: Wilf, Janet, Chris, Heather, John, their spouses, children and grandchildren, who all loved him like a grandfather and made sure that he was part of every family gathering. Doug loved children, always making time for them and making each one feel special. In turn, he was special to each of them. He will be forever loved by all the "little ones" near and far who touched his heart and made him smile. Doug was a gentleman; he loved a Friday night party with music and good cheer. Although more recently his age prevented him from being the last one to leave such gatherings, he always made an appearance and ended his night with a little song to entertain the crowd. Doug loved to go "up the shore" for an afternoon drive. Thank you to Kenneth Hynes, his constant companion and friend for making that trip with him so many times. The nightly visits, friendship and being there at a moments' notice when called meant so much to Doug and to us, his family. Kenneth, you were a blessing to Doug and the reason he was able to stay in his own home for so long. Doug will be missed by his caregivers Jeanie Swain, Jill Walsh and Sandy O'Brien, his Sunny Hill neighbours, many friends and Aquaforte family. Thank you to Diane Costello and the staff of Quality Home Care; Dan, Katie and staff at Baltimore Pharmacy; Eastern Health Professionals, especially Mary and Michelle Rossiter; Shamrock Medical Clinic staff, Dr. Peter Morry and staff of 4 East at St. Patrick's Mercy Home. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with COVID-19 restrictions there will be no visitation at this time. A Celebration of Life and Funeral will take place at a later date. Donations in Doug's memory can be made to St Philips Anglican Church, Aquaforte or The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34 Southern Shore.
