At this time I cannot connect this Thomas Winser to one of the existing Winser families in Denbury at the time because I lack a birth-baptism record to associate with him.
Thomas Winsor and Susanna Coker had a son named Thomas who died ca 1789 so it seems very plausible that they may have named another son by this name. That was the custom when a son named after his father perished in childhood. But again, there is no evident record of birth or baptism at Denbury. What I have found, however, is that several of the Winser/Winsor families either lived in or chose to have sacraments periodically in neighbouring villages including Torbryan so this posibility bears further investigation, especially since Susanna Coker was born in Torbryan. Also Thomas Winsor himself was originally from Ipplepen, which also is very close to Torbryan, so baptismal records should be checked there as well as East and West Ogwell and possibly even Newton Abbott which is only slightly more distant and would have been large enough to be a draw for employment in those years. Newton Abbott is known to be a principal market town where ship's captains recruited for the Newfoundland fishery. 1978

Hi Chris.
In the process of tracing my tree I have found that the Winsers who stayed in England mostly married familys from Denbury or the immediate area. William T Winser's wife Louisa Holman's mum Ann was a Denbury girl Ann Binmore and the Holmans all lived in Denbury. William and Louisa and Louisa's mum ran the local shops. Ann ran the Grocers which merged with the Post Office / Bakery c1881 and William had the Bakery/Post office. The Bakery being Winser/Miller property for over 60 years. The building is still there right in the centre of Denbury. outside original inside converted to a private house. (The tingle I got touching the house this summer was amazing. How many of my ancestors had touched that same wall)
The Binmores, Holmans and Winsers all went back and forth from Newfoundland & Devon. Do you know the reason for this. It has been suggested it was something to do with Salt Cod.
I would love to see your report as would my dad my email address is karen.stevens@blueyonder.co.uk
Take Care
Karen
