131118:
I note that on the marriage register for his marriage to Elizabeth Layman (née Bowden), a widow, it is noted that Henry Winser is a widower himself. I do not show a prior marriage for him but I do show a later marriage to Eleanor Anderson.
At this point I am afraid that I may have mixed up which Henry Winser was married to which woman or women since there were several Henry Winsers in this area at about this time.
All that can be said with certainty is that a Henry Winser whose wife was named Elizabeth was the father of the six children shown in the Baptism register from 1793 to 1807.

At this time I cannot determine to which family of Winsers in Denbury this Henry belongs because I evidently do not have a birth/baptismal record for him. As noted on other "orphans" of this surname whose marriages or burial records or the baptisms of children were found in the Denbury register, but whose own birth/baptismal record could not be located in the parish register, several of the Denbury Winser or Winsor families were actually residents of nearby communities like Torbryan or Ipplepen and it may be that the missing records appear in the parish records of those communities. This bears further research.
He clearly was not one of the Winsers that moved to Aquaforte about this time because he is found with his wife and family in the 1841 Census in Denbury as an agricultural labourer. This suggests he may have been unrelated since all of the Winser clan who moved to Aquaforte were in some manner associated with marine trades.

150523:
An article appeared in the Devon Family History Society magazine this month which sheds light on the career of this person as an indentured youth and then as a carpenter in the Royal Navy and then purports to continue with his occupation after leaving the service. The author of the article was Lorraine Dicksee and I engaged with her via email (lorraineandt@msn.com to determine if this was indeed the same person as in her article.
The reason for my uncertainty was because she had attached as his father a different Peter Winser who was a part of the ancestry of her husband. Andy Dicksee, even though that man was actually from Broadhempston, not Denbury, where Henry was born.
In our review of the logic of her association of that Peter as the father of this Henry it became clear that her's was a stab in the dark, possibly wishing to have an exciting bit of colour to add to her husband's family history, since Henry was a part of the British Polar Expedition in 1875-76 aboard the HMS Discovery.
From the evidence of the records of birth/baptism of Henry and his brother Albert, both of Denbury, it seems unlikely that their father was from anywhere else and I am convinced that I have the right person who fits the details of his military file. Therefore I am adding Lorraine's article because of the useful information it contains, based upon his RN file but I am also attaching the original RN file to support this. As for his career after leaving the RN, I remain unsure of whether or not she again found the correct person for the rest of her story as her contention is that he spent the rest of his working life as a railway employee in Newton Abbott, which seems a far reach once again.
220523:
Following further research I discovered that Lorraine's research was sound and that Henry's father was indeed a Peter Winser born in Broadhempston and that Henry did indeed become a railway worker once he finished his 20 years in the RN.
I just now discovered who Lorraine and Andy are from a marriage record found on Ancestry:

Noted on his wife's burial record that she was a widow, hence I believe I have chosen the correct burial record for him even though there were other Henry Winsers in Denbury at that time.
301018:
I suspect that they may have lived in Torbryan after their wedding and had children there who were baptised somewhere other than Denbury. How else to explain the long gap between when they were married in 1741 and when their first child was baptised in Denbury in 1747? We also know that there was a daughter named Catherine who was born during this period because we have her burial record in the year following their marriage in Denbury.

According to the church register he was privately baptised on August 20th, 1786 and then received into the church on September 3rd. This generally happens when a newborn is at risk of dying. And as we see, Henry only lived a few more months after this. 8282

130916:
I have him marrying Eleanor Anderson simply because I have no other Henry Winsor by any spelling of that surname of marriageable age at this time, but he would have been 67 and twice married at the time, so I am doubtful. I think there is another Henry I am missing.
161018:
In addition, the information I received from the family tree of Karen Stevens on Genes Reunited appears to all be in error because the children supposedly born to Henry Winser and Elizabeth [Bowden] Layman would have all been born after she was 50. I doubt very much that this information is of any value.
051118:
Further to the above, there are far too many anomalies that would result from accepting that the man name Henry Winser who married Joan Field and had eleven children by her before she died in 1792 would then marry twice more and have a large number of additional children.
I now suspect that it was their second son named Henry, born in 1772 who must have been the husband of the other two women. I had previously shown him being buried the day after he was born but now believe that burial was of his brother Henry, born in 1763 and from whom he took his name.
I am therefore going to make these corrections today and hope that it all comes out making better sense.
