There is an error in this NGB transcript that I only just discovered when I found a copy of the marriage register entry for Monier Williams Hutchings and Margaret Varlow (Widow) on FindMyPast.
It turns out her maiden name was Ball, not Tessier. One of the volunteers on NGB made this error of interpretation and I am deleting it from my family tree now to avoid perpetuating it.

Sarah Ball was brought up in Topsham, possibly with her relations, the Hills or with Brands. Nicholas Brand inherited property in Topsham and Ebford, (between Topsham and Woodbury), and when Sarah married in 1826, she was a spinster "of the parish". We have checked the Topsham records and have not found any siblings or any members of the Ball family.

Dear Chris
Another batch of ten documents to keep you busy over Christmas.
I do not know of a direct blood relationship between Richard Decamp Ball and Sarah [Ball Cockeram] Ball. He died so soon after their marriage Sarah became step-mother to Anna C, Ellen M, and Vincent A Ball. Sarah Ball Cockeram is the sister-in-law of my 2nd great grandfather so I have not followed down this line. Let me know if you are able to solve this problematic relationship!
Have a drink on me

300614:
Note that for one researcher with a lot of experience with this family line (Ruth Standtring in Canberra) there is a lack of clearcut evidence that Sarah Ball was in fact a child of the marriage of William Ball and Eliza Hill:
I believe they have at least one daughter, Sarah Ball, but I have not, as yet, been able to definitely prove this relationship. Sarah Ball moves to England where she marries Robert Cockeram in Woodbury, Devon in 1826. They have at least 7 children. Two of which are Francis (bap 1827) and Thomas Graham (bap 1837).
Sarah Ball was a witness to Anna Maria Brand's (d. of Nicholas Brand) and Francis William Lock Ross's marriage in Topsham, Devon in 1820. In turn, Nicholas' son, Henry Brand and his wife, Alicia Eleanora aka Alice, were apparently witnesses at Sarah Ball/Robert Cockeram's marriage. (I got that second one from this forum post: <http://ngb.chebucto.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=229&p=7796&hilit=sarah+cockeram#p7796> - I'm geckosearch in a reply post). So there seems to be a close relationship there.
I have a number of England UK Census records showing that Sarah Cockeram was born about 1802 in Newfoundland and the 1861 Census specifically states Ferryland. Also, she names one of her daughters, Sarah Ball Cockeram - presumably for her maiden name. BTW, the wonderful thing is that this daughter goes on to marry Richard Dechamp Ball in 1868 becoming Sarah Ball Ball. :) But I digress.

July 29 2021:
I am reviewing some old correspondence contained in Jean Carter Stirling's collected family history notes. One Item I came upon was the email from Peggy Findlay she sent me on August 12 2010 on the subject of Sarah [Ball] Cockeram. She notes that, even though her parents, Elizabeth Ann Hill and William Ball were married in Ferryland in October 1799, they do not appear on the 1800 census. I checked and this is a fact. Their names do not appear as a family in residence in that local area nor does his name appear as a "Master" of fishing operations. Her conclusion was that they must have departed the area shortly after their marriage. I cannot come to any conclusion in that regard based on what information I have been able to find on this couple.

The data on this family are well supported by primary sources and it therefore appears to be true that their first child, Balleny Carr, was born before they married.
