On the CD Index of Griffith's Valuation there are very few O'Brien's living in Aghnameadle, the parish name for the area surrounding Toomyvara. In fact there are only three: Morgan Sr. and Jr. and William. Jamie knows that her grandfather's name was Thomas (Tom) and that he had at least two brothers, Morgan and Terrence. But they were born too recently to have been in the valuation. So it seems more than likely that the two Morgan's, father and son, are Jamie's great grand uncle and second great grandfather. William was her great grandfather and a brother of Morgan Jr. I've added Morgan as the sibling of her great grandfather.

071108: Fortwilliam was the address given by son Thomas on his marriage certificate but his mother was in the 1901 census as a widow residing in Glenawinna, Aghnameadle, and that was also the address of William in Griffith's Valuation so I assume that is where William O'Brien had his farm. He is also shown as leasing property there to Matthew Maher, one of the neighbours on the 1901 Census. The two areas are a stone's throw from one another.

Email from Enid O'Brien 29/05/02:

"Ellen was the sister of Michael married to Bridget Aylward. William was a different group of O'Briens altogether. There was a great tragedy involved with this family. William O'Brien and his son, John. Ellen's sister, Margaret's husband, Michael Whelan and his oldest son [John Francis Whelan, born 1878], Peter Yard's mother Ann [Enid had thiswrong at first - Peter Yard's mother is actually Mary Prendergast] (Peter md to Irene Carew) and her dgt [Anne?] all left Cape Broyle to go to St. John's on a fine day. Mrs Yard was bringing her dgt out to teacher's training. A sudden storm came up and they were all lost. (two brother's in law with their two sons and the Yards who were also related) - a lot of people for a small community. This was in August 1884."

Note that Enid filled in a few details and corrected others, as notedin square brackets above, in a subsequent email but she is still not sure which of Peter Yard's daughters died along with his wife, Mary Prendergast, and the others lost at sea in this tragedy.

271207: In the birth/baptismal record seen online on the North Tipperary Genealogical Society website today it indicates the names of the sponsors were Pat Meara and Johanna O'Brien respectively. It seems most likely that Pat was the brother of his mother (i.e. Meara should be O'Meara). I am making this assumption and adding the name to her family pending documented proof. Johanna O'Brien would have been the wife of William's uncle Cornelius. I asked Jamie if she knew if the parish priest in Toomyvara who presided over the baptism of her father and his siblings (D. O'Meara) was a relative of her grandmother and she did not know so I am not making this assumption, since it is a common name in that area.

O'BRIEN (Mountain Lodge,Toomevara) - March 13, 2015 (peacefully), at home, William (Billy), beloved husband of the late Nellie; deeply regretted by his loving sons William and Michael, daughters Kathleen (Cantwell) and Helen (Malone), sister Mary, sons-in-law Michael and Kieran, daughters-in-law Niamh and Catriona, nephew Willie, sister-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and many friends. R.I.P. Reposing at Keller's Funeral Home, Nenagh this Sunday evening from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral arriving to Toomevara Church on Monday morning at 10.45am for Funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. House private.
