I believed that Jean Carter Stirling got this marriage wrong. There is no evidence that this Edgar Rendell ever married on19 Nov 1919. It is possible that he did very briefly but that they then separated. However, he was noted to be single on the 1921, 1935 and 1945 Censuses. But then I found his death certificate on Ancestry and reported he was married. It seems that they never divorced but never lived together or did so for a brief time.

Several family trees on Ancestry show that he married Ethel Mary Fox, some saying that it occurred in 1819 and others saying it wasn't until 1950 when she was a widow. But there is no record of such a marriage at either time.

160112: Marriage record for Elias Rendell to Elizabeth May Stone notes that he was a widower and that they were both from Sheldon (Shelburne?) Nova Scotia. But I suspect that is where they were living at the time of the marriage, not where they were born, though she may have been. he was likely born in Devon.

060312: There is some confusion as to his date of birth or if I have perhaps identified an earlier Elias. According to transcription of burial record from Anglican Cathedral register by Jill Marshall, he should have been born about 1798 yet I show him born 16 years earlier based on earlier information. Most likely I have mixed up two men by the same name a generation apart.

TRENT UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES Fonds Level Description Rendell, Elias, ca. 1797- 04-1007 TITLE Elias Rendell indenture. -- 1812. -- 1 item. / HISTORY Rendell, son of John Rendell and brother of John Rendell, was born in ca. 1797 and lived in Shaldon, County of Devon, England. Rendell was 15 years old at the time that the apprenticeship agreement was signed. HISTORY AND CONTENT is an indenture stating that Elias Rendell of Shaldon, County of Devon, England agrees to become an accountant apprentice of [M-] Crawfords & Company, merchants, in St. Johns, Newfoundland. The item lays out the terms of the agreement.

Elias Rendell came to Nfld at age 11.
He was Seargent of Arms of the House of Assembly at St. John's.
He died on the way to a Service at the Cathedral.
He married three times. His second wife,Elizabeth, was the eldest daughter of
David Howe, Esq. of Halifax, Nova Scotia. They were married at Church of
England, St.John's; the bride was given away by Robert Carter Esq., bridesmaids
Julia Carrington and Louisa Howe. Present: Mrs. R.Carter, Mrs. & Miss Bullock,
Mr. and Mrs. W. Rendell, William Rendell, Jun. James Carter Sr and James Carter
Jr, Fanny Carrington, John Leonard, Mrs. Howe, Mary Jane Howe, Augusta Howe,
