Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.
We who have typed these wills, have made every effort to include all the errors that were on the microfilm, in order to avoid destroying the integrity of the originals, where ever they may be.

030907:

In Cassie Brown's book "A Winter's Tale" about the sinking of the FLORIZEL, Cyril W. Tessier was involved in mounting an effort to equip a rescue aboard the HAWK, a vessel for which he was the agent. Brown's portrayal of the indecision on the part of Tessier and others in terms of equipping the HAWK, offloading its cargo of coal and expediting it on its way to the site of the sinking in Capahayeden is far from complimentary. See pages 184,191, 193, 276. It is doubtful that the delays were responsible for further loss of life but they certainly increased the hardship endured by the beleaguered survivors on board the wreck of the FLORIZEL. Tessier gave testimony at the enquiry. One can well imagine that his testimony portrayed his role in an entirely different and probably more flattering light.

050812 this from Kevin Reddigan: "Bertha inherited his [her husband's] portion of the Carter estate, mortgaged it to James Carter but then, upon her death, her son CWG Tessier took over the mortgage. The other pieces of the Carter estate were either purchased by CWG directly, or he held mortgages against the other properties that were part of the original Carter estate. I presume that until the mortgages were paid off in full, CWG was considered the "owner" of these properties."

170821:
Jean Carter Stirling's Tessier family notes describe in great detail the settling of the estate of PeterGeorge Tessier years later by Cyril W. G. Tessier. Apparently the people with whom he and his twin brother had been living at the end of their lives more or less took ownership of the estate and it had to be wrested from their descendants decades later:

1911The twins' only remaining brother, Charles W.H. Tessier died at the Mayo Clinic.
192126 Nov. Peter George made a will in Weybury, Devon [NB should be Wembury. CM] on his deathbed; Maurice Sherwill was named executor.
192130 Nov. PGT died at Knighton Farm where he and his twin brother lived with the Sherwills, Maurice and wife Bessie.
192221 Sept. Affidavit made by Wm. Pursley, farmer, witness to the will of PGT.
192528 Mar. Lewis Robert Tessier, the remaining twin, died at Knighton Farm.
192519 Nov. Letters of Administration were granted to Rt. Hon. Sir William F. Lloyd and death duties payable by the estate of the said deceased were then paid. Everything left to Bessie Sherwill. NO PROBATE was applied for.
193328 Feb. Deed signed by Maurice Sherwill, transferring right title and interest in deceased's estate to Cyril Tessier in St. John's, upon his request.
193318 April -Petition of Cyril W.G. Tessier, St. John's to local supreme court for Letters of Administration.
19332nd May - Oath of Administration by Cyril Tessier at the Supreme Ct, Nfld. $11,625.24 paid to Government of England

I became aware of the existence of this additional son for George and Blanche from a photo of him with his mother and one of his brothers (George) which I copied this summer from Ida White Michael. When I checked on the NGB website there was ample informtion to add him to the family. My previous list of only three sons came from information provided by Harcourt Gardiner. His information has often proved incorrect and incomplete and should always be verified. He also had Meta Ryder as the wife of Gladstone when in fact she was the wife of Edgar (they are buried together at Forest Rd. Cemetery). Hos full name, Edgar Langmead Carter Tessier, was found on the NGB website list of soldiers in WWII.
