Notes
General:
110608: Per Upper Trinity South webpages on Religions in Cavendish:

"The Anglican church, which was first called The Church of England was opened in 1906. The first priest of the Anglican church was Reverend W.C. White. Mr. James Rowe constructed the interior of the church and the seats were installed on All Saints Day, November 1, 1914. Ed Bishop painted the ceiling scrolls while lying on his back on scaffolding. The first marriage in the Anglican church happened on January 11th 1911. ( A marriage without seats? ) The first record of a visit by a Bishop, Llewlyn Newfoundland, was in 1902."

111211: From Jennifer Bishop's website: CENSUS:

1. Per the 1921 Census of Grand Falls - Part 2:

BISHOP; Edward; GF; hd; Jun 1883; St. John's; CE; Photographer;;; BISHOP; Isabel; GF; wife; Aug 1883; HG; CE;; m to Edward Bishop, GF;; BISHOP; Cyril; GF; son; Nov 1917; Cavendish; CE;; son of Edward Bishop, GF;;

" NF120 : CBN02 BISHOP, Edward Ithial (1973) & Isabel Noel & Rose - 1 photo"

NF= Newfoundland, CBN = Carbonear

200313 according to Paul Shumaker family tree there was a second son named simply Desmond, but there are no details and I think this is a mistake.

230413: On the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Grand falls website there is a history of the church which is a work in progress. It says this about Uncle Ed:

"On February 14, 1924, it was decided that owing to the annoyance during services caused by boys congregating in the transepts, Mr. E. Bishop and Mr. A. Wells consented to take up their places in the transepts to keep the boys in order."

Strangely though it credits someone else (Mr. Thomas Brown, Rector's Warden) with building and donating the pulpit, something that Mom told me was done by Uncle Ed.

This is added on a later page:

"On May 7, 1930, a meeting was called to consider an extension to the Church. When completed, the seating capacity would double. Additions included north and south aisles, the entrances and towers and spire. Members of the building committee were Thomas Brown, Samuel Lane, E.I. Bishop, Allan Noel, Samuel Pond, C. Hall, T. Sutton, John Lane, A. Hiscock, Joseph Lane and Joseph Noseworthy. Cost was approx. $10,500. A great deal of free labour was given for the excavation work."

NOTES:

1. Per e-mail January 29, 2001 from Edwin Penney (much of which coincides with the information already received from Joyce (Bishop) Dobbie - exceptions being she did not have Samuel's brother Eleazer and she had James Sharpe married to Mahalla's sister Adelia):

"My name is Ed Penney and I've recently gotten into family history. My wife's mother was a Bishop from Heart's Delight. Her memory isn't good so I've not been able to find out too much about her family background. Maybe you can help me! This is what I know. Annie mildred Bishop b. July 23 1912 Heart's Delight m. They were Victor, Benjamin ad Llewellyn. Hope you can help me get back further. Ed "

2. I had suspected that Samuel and Eleazer were related as they are living next to each other according to the 1921 Census of Heart's Delight.
