Gravestone in Brigus South old Catholic cemetery is on Stonepics CD NF154 BSS012-8930-8957. The stone is heavily encrusted with lichen and weather worn.
It reads (to the extent that it is possible to make it out):
"To the Memory of William Battcock Who Died August 26th 1857 Aged 64(?) Years And His Wife ELEANOR Who Died December 7th 1857 Aged 62 Years Also Their Daughter ELEANOR Who Died February 28 1855 (?) Aged 21(?) Years"
Since some of these dates and ages conflict with information providedby other sources, primary Church documents need to be examined beforethe exact figures are accepted.

120312:
I am postulating that the William and Eleanor Saunders whose names appear as parents of a William Saunders who died and was buried April 1770 at age 22 in the Ferryland Non-Denominational Cemetery are also the parents of John and Daniel, whom I previously assumed to be brothers by virtue of their both appearing in the 1800 Census of Ferryland. All of this is totally speculative and in desperate need of documentary proof.

201218:
Neither William Saunders senior nor his wife Elinor [sic] who are apparently mentioned on the gravestone of William Saunders Jr. (though that stone is no longer legible) were alive or at least resident in Ferryland at the time of Robert Carter's 1800 Census.

I am copying here the two versions of the transcription of the gravestone of William Saunders made by Gerald Pocius and Craig Peterman and others including members of the NLGS so that it can be seen the extent to which the name of his parents is known:
120312: Gravestone in old non-denominational cemetery in Ferryland is badly deteriorated but was photographed in 2005 by Craig Peterman and is believed to read:
?? ??? the ?????????] WILLIAM SAUNDERS ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM AND ELEANOR SAUNDERS WHO [Died] April 1770 Aged 22 Years

100818:
From the FHSNL following a tip by Kevin Reddigan, I downloaded a file containing some of the gravestone transcriptions and photos (bad photocopies only) made by Gerald Pocius in Conception Bay and on the Southern Shore during the course of his research, apparently in 1993. Pocius found and photographed several gravestones in both the Non-Denominational Cemetery on the southside of Ferryland and the Anglican Cemetery on the northside (sometimes called Forge Hill or Fox Hill) several of which can no longer be found, whether through vandalism or weathering is not known.
Pocius was able to discern more words on the gravestone of William Saunders than Craig Peterman was able to do in 2005. I cannot even find the stone now.
Here is Pocius' transcription:
"Here lyeth the body of
WILLIAM SAUNDERS
Eldest son of WILLIAM
-- ELINOR SAUNDERS
Who Departed This Life
April 1770. Aged 22 Years."
It is important to note that there is no doubt whatsoever that the family name was spelled SAUNDERS on this stone, though in many paper records the family was referred to as SANDERS.
