Notes
General:
28/08/01: On record of marriage at St. Thomas's she signed with an X indicating she was illiterate. Her sponsors were J. Wheeler (her father or brother?) and Elspeth Wheeler. The Minister was G.R. Godden
14/12/01: I formerly had this Caroline Wheeler listed as a sibling of John Thomas Carr Wheeler, Mom's father. I realised my mistake when I found the birth and baptismal record for his sister at St. Thomas's in 1884, which make a lot more sense since his parents were not married until 1871. I still believe that the other Caroline is somehow related to the family but am no longer sure just how. Possibly John Thomas Carr Wheeler's 1st cousin?Needs more research.
190304 information from Mom: Married an old fisherman from White Bay named something like Jordan Marsh (?). She was a bit "teched" according to Mom. He took her back home with him and made her his slave for all intents and purposes. He was tight. He was quoted as saying "The Lard says hold onto that which is good and that's money and I hold onto it."
She only got back to St. John's once when she was in hospital and Mom would visit her after school as a little girl.
They had only one son and the old man brought him to St. John's a few times and it was he that reported his father treated his mother like dirt.
111009: I'm of two minds whether to accept the dates of birth, marriage and death for family members found in the family bible. There seem to be many discrepancies, if not outright errors. In this case there is only 1 day in the difference so I am leaving the church record as the "official" birth date for now.
200710: Stonepics shows her gravestone (NF010-JAC02-2931) which bears the date of birth as 16 November 1886 bearing out the bible.

020330:
I only just realised today the reason she wound up being married to Jordan Moores. Her father's first cousin, John Joseph Wheeler, was already living in Jackson's Cove, having married a local girl (Grace Moores) and no doubt arranged an introduction to his cousin's daughter for Jordan Moores when he was looking to take a bride. Caroline, Jordan, John Joseph and his wife Grace are all buried in the United Cemetery in Jackson's Cove. I have therefore concluded that Grace Moores was Jordan Moores father who was named William Moores was Grace Moores' brother so I have connected them as such today.

Notes
General:
14/12/02: This relationship to Evelyn Morry's line of Wheelers is speculative for the moment, based solely on the fact that the father's Christian and surnames (John Thomas Carr) and the mother's Christian name (Caroline) appear in Evelyn Morry's father's name and sister's Christian name, plus the coincidence of the location of the Baptism. This needs to be substantiated with better facts.
There is a story in the family that Daddy Jack (John Thomas Carr Wheeler) was named after the husband of his Aunt Caroline. She and her husband were wealthy but childless and wished to raise Daddy Jack. At first his mother agreed, becasue they were not well off and she felt he would get a better upbringing in a wealthier family. But at the last minute she changed her mind and could not give him up. Nevertheless theygave him the name of his would be adopted father.
If the story is true, none of the money that would have gone to him had he been adopted ever came to him or his family afterwards.
240308: The relationship is almost certain now thanks to additional facts on the family provided by Peggy Krause Hansen from her family tree on Genes Reunited.
This from Peggy today: "MORE ABOUT CAROLINE WHEELER CARR:
Born circa 1858 to James Richard WHEELER of St. Johns, Newfoundland. (Will of Sophia Wheeler Carr).
1890: Mentioned in the account of the Whitley Bay drowning of her sister Sophia Wheeler Carr and her niece Gertrude Carr. Was mentioned as providing a home for Sophia and Gertrude for the past five years. (Shields Daily News Feb. 22, 1890).
1891 census RG12/4230/80/31: Living at 24 St. Marys Terrace, Whitley, Northumberland with daughters Isabella Maud and "Elizabeth"; son John Thos.; brother in law David C. Carr and 1 servant.
1901 census RG 13/4772/Pg 62: Living at 12 Bristol Terrace, Newcastle with husband John T. T.; son John T.; daughters Isabel Maud and Elspeth."
260710: Her baptismal record appears twice in the registry at St. Thomas's with notations connection the two entries. It isn't clear why this happened or the significance.

Notes
General:
According to Mom, Clara was mildly retarded and was taken advantage of and bore an illegitimate child. The child died when Clara rolled on the baby and it suffocated. Clara was tried and convited of murder but the case was reviewed and she was later released in the custody of her mother.
Later she had a second child (also illegitimate). This child, a son, was raised by her mother until her death.
She was single at the time of the 1921 Census.
28/08/01: The Census wrongly recorded the date of birth of Clara and several other family members. Birth/Baptismal Certificates give the correct information and are the preferred source.
On Baptismal record # 00316221 at Basilica shows her sponsors were Daniel Ryan and Elizabeth Goss (presumably her mother's sister).
190304: According to Mom, she was supposed to be engaged to a man who was a fisherman and drowned at sea. After that she became pregnant by another man (well known around town) and he was the father of Victor.
111009: I'm of two minds whether to accept the dates of birth, marriage and death for family members found in the family bible. There seem to be many discrepancies, if not outright errors. In this case there is only a few days in the difference so I am leaving the church record as the "official" birth date for now.
250712: Of note is the fact that she died only days after her mother. She either died of grief because she was so dependent on her mother or she took her own life for the same reason. There is no family lore on this. It is the kind of thing I would expect would have been hushed up but that you would at least hear a rumour of. No such thing.
