Her existence is only known from the Petty Harbour C of E record of the illegitimate birth of a daugther named Sally whose reported father was John Saunders. Since the birth was reported in Renews, this could be no one other than John William Saunders who operated a business in Renews for many years. At the time of the birth he was not married that we know of from any records seen. May was reported to be a pauper and it seems likely he seduced her or she was reduced to prostitution to feed herself.
