Notes
General:
Note from Cynthia Margaret Kirby Deede emails 2006: In early 2002 Hugh Peck writes:

"I was looking for Cyril's name in the Newfoundland Regiment and couldn't find it. I went to the Canadian Book of Remembrance and found him listed as a member of the 72nd Battalion (Seaforth Highlanders) which in fact was a Canadian Regiment based in Vancouver. They arrived in the U K on the 04 May 1916, then on the 12th of August they embarked for France. 40 Officers and 1,055 men. They arrived on Aug 18 1916. Eight months later, 655 were lost to casualties. Then came Vimy April 9th-11th 1917 and only 64 all ranks were not casualties. It must of been horrid. I am moved that there is another tie that binds me to British Columbia."

On Oct.10, 2002 After many hours of searching Hugh has confirmed the information concerning the war service of our great uncle Cyril LeMessurier. Hugh writes:

This week Hugh Peck posted the official account of the death of Cyril Le Messurier on the Kirby Family website. A copy of this official document is found in the Media Gallery. Sadly, after assisting another wounded soldier to reach a casualty clearing station, he himself fell victim to German shrapnel and was unable to be saved when he too was brought to the casualty clearing station.

030715:

Cyril's son C.R. (Craig) Le Messurier prepared a family history and tree sometime in the 1980s which is on file at The Rooms as MG 929.120 among the family history series. I had seen it before this year and even photographed several pages previously but wound up doing the same thing again this year because the information had not been recorded in my family tree the last time I did so. I intend to make sure that this is rectified now.

Here is part of what Craig had to say about his family:

Cyril Vincent was in the life insurance business for 43 years and was Branch Manager with Imperial Life when he retired. Cyril married Daisy (née Peckford) in 1940. There were four children from this marriage namely Robert (DOB 1941), Malcolm (DOB 1943), Gloria (DOB 1944) and Craig (DOB 1958).
