I am adding in this additional son named John because he appers on the 1960 Census as having been born just before the census was taken but we know that another son named John was born in 1865 from his birth/baptism church record which is undisputable. It would appear that William and Margaret lost two sons in their early years before William, the second John and Sarah were born and survived.

Notes
General:
040607: Fergus Kennedy has copied quite a few death certificates for Quinlisks in the Cloughjordan area in the late 1800s that are all probably related to he and Jamie. One apparent couple are John and Margaret Quinlisk of Behamore ( Hawkshaw ). I am inferring that they are husband and wife from the information on the two death certificates.

The death certificate of John reads: Date and Place of Death: Seventh December 1892, Behamore Name and Surname: John Quinlisk Sex: Male Condition: Widower Age last Birthday: 90 Rank, Profession and Occupation: Farmer Certified Cause of Death, and Duration of Illness: Old age; No med. att. Signature, Qualifications and Residence of Informant: John Quinlisk present at death, Behamore When Registered: Sixteenth December, 1892 Signature of Registrar: looks like M. McLaughlin

The death certificate of Margaret reads: Date and Place of Death: Twenty-eighth September 1882, Behamore Name and Surname: John Quinlisk Sex: Female Condition: Widow Age last Birthday: 65 Rank, Profession and Occupation: Wife of Farmer Certified Cause of Death, and Duration of Illness: Old age; No med. att. Signature, Qualifications and Residence of Informant: John Quinlisk present at death, Behamore When Registered: Second October, 1882 Signature of Registrar: looks like M. McLaughlin

I have entered the information on this relationship pending further proof and corroboration by Fergus. I am also making the assumption that there was a son, John Quinlisk, who was present at the death of the above John.

011107 email adds more information following Fergus's trip to Dublin to view some of the records of the area: "4. John Quinlisk of Behamore Hawkshaw. He died 7 Dec 1892, aged 90. I think he married Margaret/Peggy Crean, and she died 28 Sep 1882 aged 65. They had at least three children - John ( 1845 ),Anne ( 1847 ) and Eliza ( 1850 ). Anne later married Thomas Collins in 1875, and Eliza married William Greene in 1882."

If my assumptions about a gravestone found in the Kilcomin, Shinrone, Offaly, Ireland cemetery, which I viewed today on Historicgraves.com, is correct, this is the son who dedicated the gravestone to his father Michael and uncle James:

Notes
General:
19/02/01 I am making a leap of faith at this time that the Patrick Quinlisk of Behamore who erected this gravestone in his father's (John Quinlisk's) memory is "Big Pat", the ancestor of all the Quinlisk's of this family tree. It seems unlikely that there would have been another Patrick Quinlisk in Behamore at the same time as this one.

130714:

The gravestone of John and Anne Quinlisk, erected by their son Patrick, is in Kilcomin cemetery. I found the attached photo and the following transcription on Historicgraves.com:

Note the discrepancy in the exact date of death of Anne. Since neither photo is completely legible, for now both dates will have to be used as alternates of one another.

191107:

I have my doubts about the children of this marriage. The information is based primarily upon data provided by the Tipperary North family history centre which I distrust for several reasons. First, they give John's wife's name as Sara Ryan when it is found on the death certificate of son Michael as Margarett. Second, the three sons as shown as being born in three different townlands widely separated from one another. Families simply didn't move around that much in those days. Finally, the date of birth for Michael as given by the Tipperary North centre is three years earlier than the very precise date of birth given on his death certificate. I trust the latter. What this likely means is that the information from the family history centre more than likely derives from at least one and possibly more families headed by a John Quinlisk and possibly a Sara Ryan who are not closely related to the John Quinlisk and Margarett Ryan who were the parents of Michael. The fact that it is known from other information that he had a brother named James and possibly one named John is more than likely pure coincidence since these names are the most common names in use in Ireland in those days.

I am leaving all three sons in this family unit for now pending further research.
